Future of Certain ACA Taxes and Fees

Several steps have been taken in 2017 toward repealing the Affordable Care Act (ACA), including the introduction of the American Health Care Act (AHCA). Although the AHCA was recently withdrawn by Republicans, Congress may choose to pursue another ACA repeal and replacement bill in the future.
Most crystal balls remain a bit cloudy while the ACA remains the law of the land, however, there are definitive changes that have been made to some ACA taxes and fees for 2017.
HIGHLIGHTS
• The Cadillac tax was delayed until 2020, but may ultimately be repealed before then.
• Due to a moratorium, the health insurance providers fee and the medical device excise tax do not apply for 2017.
• Reinsurance fees do not apply for 2017 and beyond (although the 2016 fees will be paid in 2017).
