Accidental Death & Dismemberment
Accidental Death and Dismemberment (AD&D) is a benefit payable if an employee dies, loses sight in one or both eyes, or loses a hand or foot, directly or as a result of an accidental bodily injury. The coverage can be written either as non-occupational or 24-hour coverage (a.k.a.: occupational coverage).

The AD&D benefit is typically identical to the group term life insurance benefit. The benefit is payable in full for loss of life. One-half the principal sum is payable for severance of a hand or foot at or above the wrist or ankle or for irrecoverable loss of sight of one eye. And, the total principal sum is payable if one or more of the previously described losses occur.
