Hurricane Ian – After the Storm
We hope that you, your family and your friends are safe as Hurricane Ian moves out of Florida and we begin to assess the damage in its wake. Your continued safety remains our highest priority.
As you can imagine our Pine Island/Bokeelia office and homes of many Florida team members were impacted by Ian. We are in this together, and the sun will once again shine bright on Florida.
If your property has been damaged and it’s safe to do so, you can take reasonable steps to protect your property from further damage, such as boarding up broken windows or tarping your roof. It is important to take pictures of the damage and save all receipts for any purchases made. Please refrain from making permanent repairs until an adjuster has had a chance to assess the damage.
Beware of Unscrupulous Contractors Post-Storm
Please be vigilant against unscrupulous contractors with Assignment of Benefits forms. Unfortunately, “storm chasers” prey on vulnerable property owners, promising quick fixes and offering to provide relief of the “burden” or “hassle” of dealing with their insurance company. If you sign an Assignment of Benefits contract, you will relinquish control of their claim to a contractor – a decision that could cost you money, or even your home, if a contractor places a lien on the home for unpaid repair bills. To avoid this problem, we encourage you to call your insurance company to report the claim before hiring a contractor. Read all paperwork carefully and ask for recommendations and credentials when selecting a contractor.
File A Claim
Remember, while we would like to be your first call during a claim, the insurance carriers require that you call the claim in directly to them. They do not allow us to file the First Notice of Property Loss for you. Here is a link with the Carrier phone numbers for your reference. Carrier Claims Numbers
We stand ready to assist you and get you on the road to recovery. First and foremost you need to contact your insurance carrier directly. Should you need anything please reach out to our corporate office, 800-258-0277 and a team member will be glad to assist you.
